Summer workshop: writing from photographs

 In Uncategorised

The photograph is of me and my sister in the schoolyard where our grandmother, Mamie, used to teach. I am now older than she was then, and my two granddaughters are not unlike the two little girls on this photograph. Very few people know the building in the background – it was demolished I think, my children at any rate have never been to the place it used to be. Few people remember Mamie as she is here, in an outfit that matches the little girl’s – and how this thrills me now, this projected ressemblance.

Our next full-day workshop takes place in All Hallows in August.  We will encourage you to go through your old family album and see some of the photographs as starting point and illustration of stories. This workshop will touch upon current research and reflections on family albums and photographs, with practical exercises and writing time. You will go home with a least one story to include in the photo album.
